Sorry for the delay in the updates. We’ve been busy trying to sell our house and getting things ready for the new house. Jacob finished 1st grade and is enjoying summer vacation even though the weather hasn’t been cooperating. Soccer and swimming are also done for the year. Jacob really started to come around in soccer this spring. In his last game he scored 2 goals. He was so excited. And I was very proud of him. He really enjoyed swimming lessons again this year. The only bad part was, he didn’t pass level two. I guess we’ll just have to try again in the fall. Hopefully he’ll pass. He just started baseball this week. But because of the nice rainy weather he only had practice on Wednesday. He was really excited about it. Hopefully he likes it. This is his first year playing so I told him to just try as hard as he could. The 1st and 2nd graders are put on teams together so some of the kids have been playing for a few years. I told him we’ll have to practice.

Little Miss MaKena is grown like a weed. She’s 5 ½ months, almost 6 months. I can’t believe how fast it has gone. She is doing so many new things, I just love it. Lane thinks she’s going to start crawling soon. I don’t think so but who knows! She’ll roll over on to her tummy and then she’ll stretch her arms out and kicks her legs up. It looks like she’s flying. She is so goofy. She loves to play in her jumper and her exersaucer. When she sits in her bouncy chair she just kicks and kicks her feet. I have a feeling once she figures out how to work those legs it’s going to be go, go, go. A couple weeks ago we put her in the grass for the first time. I don’t think she really enjoyed it, maybe in a few months. Her next doctor appointment is on June 23rd. After that I believe we can start her on baby food. I’m excited to see how she does. She’s been such a good baby. She's a good sleeper, she eats well and is normally a very happy baby. You can tell when she is getting tired as she starts to get fussy. At night we feed her and then just lay her in her crib and she falls asleep. I love it! We are very blessed with two wonderful children.

Busy, Busy, Busy

It’s hard to believe it’s the middle of May. We’ve been so busy, but it’s a good busy. Jacob is playing soccer again this spring. They play for 5 weeks and this next weekend is the last weekend. He seems to still enjoy playing. Just over the 2 years that he’s played, he has really grown and has gotten a lot better. He’s slowly starting to get a little more aggressive, which is good. Next year he will play on a bigger field with goalies. Right now they play 4 against 4 on small fields with no goalies. Some days it can be a hair pulling experience but most of the time I enjoy watching him and his teammates. Besides soccer, Jacob is also taking swimming lesions twice a week. So he really keeps us busy! The school year is also winding down. Only 3 more weeks and Jacob will be done with First Grade. He’s been doing really well. I think it helps that he really loves school. We are very proud of him. They have a big field trip on the 27th of May. They get to take a bus to the Wahpeton Zoo. Jacob is really excited for this trip.

MaKena is still growing like a weed. Her last doctor appointment was April 22nd. At the appointment she was 13 lbs 13 oz and was 25 inches long. She also got 4 shots, which she did not like at all. I don’t blame her! Our next doctor appointment is June 23rd. It’s amazing how much she seems to change every day. On the 3rd of May, MaKena figured out how to roll from her back to her right side and then on to her tummy. On the 9th of May she figured out how to roll over to her tummy from her left side. She enjoys rolling but eventually gets mad after being on her tummy for a while and starts to fuss. No more leaving her just lay and thinking she’ll stay put! She’s also figured out how to work her little fingers. She grabs at stuff without any trouble. She has gotten a hold of my hair but she hasn’t figured out how to pull real hard yet. I’m sure that will come. She has also figured out her voice. I think she finally realized it’s her making the noise and she continues to do it. It’s so cute! She is at such a fun age.

On May 8th, Lane and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary. I can’t believe we’ve been married 4 years already. It seems like just yesterday we were walking down the aisle and dancing the night away. That was a fun night! We’ve been keeping ourselves busy with house stuff. We are in the process of selling our twin home and moving into something a little bigger. On top of that, I accepted a new job at Black Ridge Financial. Today was my first day. It was scary and exciting all in one. I worked for Bank of the West for 6 years so it was hard to leave but it was a good move and the right time. So all and all we have been keeping ourselves busy and out of trouble!

MaKena's big day!

Last Sunday, April 6th, MaKena Rose was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Her sponsors were Brad and Anita Huseby and Jennifer and Nate Baukol. MaKena wore a very old gown that has been in the Redfield family for many years. My dad wore the same gown for his baptism and he would have turned 59 years old on April 21st. My aunt Carol and my uncle Steve also wore this gown. I was baptized in this gown along with my 7 cousins. It seems as though the tradition has been carried on into the great grandkids. So it is a very special gown and we were honored that she was able to wear it. It was a great day. The weather didn’t cooperate with us but we didn’t let that ruin MaKena’s big day. I’ve added some pictures below of the big event. I hope you enjoy.

I'm growing!

Our little Miss MaKena is already 15 weeks old. She has really grown these past few weeks. MaKena is always so smiley and her personality is starting to show. She has been doing a lot of babbling, it’s so cute. When she starts babbling we talk back to her and she smiles at you then she starts babbling again. If we only knew what she was thinking. It’s amazing how much she changes from day to day. Her hair is starting to get thicker and longer on top of her head. She still has the hair on the back of her head that sticks straight up and a patch of darker hair down by her neck. It will be interesting to see what color her hair will be.

MaKena has picked up another nasty cough. Daddy took her to the doctor today to get it checked out. It turned out to be viral so there’s nothing they can do for her. Poor baby! But we did find out that she weighs 14 lbs 2 oz. She has officially moved into 3-6 month clothing. Thanks to cousin Emma, MaKena has more clothes in her closet than mommy and daddy! Jen brought over a big tub full of clothes to share with us. What would we do without her! Thank you Jen!

This Sunday is a very important day for MaKena. We are having her baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. We have chosen Jen and Nate and Brad and Anita to be her sponsors. It should be a special day for her. I will post pictures for everyone to see.

I’ve posted lots of pictures below and had a hard time picking just a few. There are some of Jacob, MaKena and Emma when we watched Emma for Jen and Nate. There’s a story behind the doctor pictures of Jacob. His class went to Dakota Clinic a week ago on a field trip. During their trip they did role playing to show them it’s not scary to go to the doctor. Jacob ended up being the patient that just had his tonsils removed. He really enjoyed this field trip and talked about it all weekend. On Saturday, MaKena was lying on the floor playing and he started taking her blood pressure and pretending to give her an IV. It was really cute. She just laid there so nice while he pretended to be her doctor. Have a great weekend!

3 Months........

WOW! Where does the time go? It’s hard to believe March is already here. Last week was a big week for both me and MaKena. On Wednesday I went back to work after having 12 weeks off and MaKena started daycare. I’d have to say I had a harder time with this than MaKena. Lane and I both took her on the first day of daycare. I was doing good until I walked out the door. I couldn’t hold it in anymore and I shed a few tears. I never went through this with Jacob. He got to hang out with Papa Pete until he was 2 and then he ventured on to daycare! This was a new experience for all of us. I think it’s going to take a few weeks for me to get used to this new routine. It’s been awhile since I’ve had any structure to my day!

Last weekend Jacob came down with a touch of the flu and MaKena picked up a nice little cough. On Monday I ended up taking her to the doctor and found out she weighs 13 pounds. Go MaKena!! This weekend was much better at the Huseby house! No flu for Jacob and just a little cough for MaKena. We all got out of the house and did some visiting with family and friends. It’s so much easier to go out and about when the weather cooperates! I can’t wait to get rid of all the winter gear! Hope everyone has a great week and a Happy Easter! I hope you enjoy the new pictures I added.

Wow! I've been slacking big time. Sorry about that. Well, yesterday MaKena had her 2 month check-up. It's hard to believe she's 9 weeks already. Where does the time go. At her apt we found out that little Miss MaKena isn't so little. She weighs 12 lbs and is 23 1/4 inches. Her head was 40.8 cm. She also got 3 shots in her legs and one oral shot. This was the part Lane and I were dreading. But she did great. She cried but once I picked her up she calmed down. So far she hasn't had any bad side effects. Her next apt is April 22nd. Besides growing, MaKena has also been smiling a lot more and talking away. If only I knew what those cute baby sounds meant! I just love it when she wakes up in the morning or from a nap and you pick her up and she has this big smile on her face and all you see is a mouth full of gums. I love it! It's going to be hard to send her off to daycare.

We had another big milestone at the Huseby house. 2 weeks ago today MaKena was moved out of mommy and daddy's room and down into her own room. This was a little hard for me the first night. I worried that I wouldn't hear her. Boy was I wrong. It's amazing how well those baby monitors work! We have the monitor plugged in out in the living room because we can hear every breath she takes. It's worse than having her sleep in our room! She is doing great and Jacob loves having someone else sleep downstairs with him. Jacob still loves having a baby sister. He loves to hold her and talk to her. When he comes home from daycare the first thing he'll ask is if he can holder her. He's such a good big brother.

I've thought about starting a blog for Jacob but I think I'll just talk about him and the rest of us in this blog. Even though it's called "girl talk" we'll do a little boy talk from time to time too. Last week Lane and I went to Jacob's conferences at school. For those of you who don't know, Jacob is a first grader. Well, I never worry when I go to his conferences. We were told that Jacob is a wonderful student. His teacher tells us that she thinks he could run the class when she is gone. She always tells the substitute teachers to ask Jacob if they have any questions about the daily routine. That doesn't surprise me! He just loves school. He also is meeting all the expectations and going above where he should be for his age. Lane and I are so proud of him. It's nice to be told such wonderful things about your child. Well I think I've rambled on long enough! Hope you enjoy the pictures. Have a great weekend!
