Gymnastics

MaKena was in the Tumble Tots gymnastics class this winter at American Gold Gymnastics. Last year we did the Parent Tot class which was fun but a little chaotic; this year was much more relaxing for me! She was in a class with about 10 other little kids her age and 4 coaches. One of the little boys in her class was CJ who is Carrie’s son (a friend and co-worker). MaKena and CJ were in the Parent Tot class together last year too. Carrie and I had some good conversations while the kids were in class. It was our quiet time! The kids were in a little room while the parents got to watch them a TV. It was pretty comical watching the kids try and do the different stations every week. The last night of class was parent’s night. MaKena was so excited to perform for us. We got to sit in the class and watch the kids instead of having to watch them on the TV. She was so proud of herself.

MaKena sitting on her carpet square waiting for class to start. Relaxing in the pit. She loves the pit.
Stretching and getting ready for the rest of class.
MaKena sitting at her first station listing very closely to the instructions.
Tah Dah! She just finished a sommersault.
MaKena doing a hand stand.
Swinging like a monkey on the bars!
Doing her tah dah at the end of class.

We have several videos of her last night of gymnastics that I need to downsize so I can upload them to blogger. Hopefully I can get them added soon as they are hilarious!

The Comfort Cafe

For the 3rd year in a row, Jacob was in the school play. This year the play was called The Comfort Cafe. It was a cute play. Jacob didn’t have a big part but he was fine with that. He played a homeless kid. He seems to really enjoy taking part in the school play and I really enjoy watching him! Hopefully next year he’ll want to try out again.

The set. Jacob is in the yellow shirt sitting in the chair. I thought this was a funny picture. He ended up standing next to the tallest girl in the play. She sure made him look little!

The Princess Wall

When Lane and I decided to move MaKena downstairs we thought it would be fun to do something different in her new room. She is obsessed with Princesses so we knew we wanted to do a Princess themed room. We looked online to get some ideas. We let MaKena pick out her bedding and the colors she wanted us to paint but the rest Lane and I picked and we wanted it to be a surprise. Lane found a large princess mural that he thought would be fun to put on her wall and a smaller princess picture that we would use to measure her growth. When we got the big princess mural neither of us knew it was wallpaper. We thought it was a sticker. We’ve never hung wallpaper on the wall before so I had a feeling this was going to be interesting. And it was. We managed to get it on the wall without too much trouble but honestly I don’t think I’ll ever put wall paper up again. What a mess! Jacob helped us keep MaKena out of the room and busy while we worked on the wall. Shockingly we were able to keep it a surprise and boy was it a surprise.

A picture of the wall half done. All done!

I’ve got a lot of pictures and stories to share I just need to get the pictures off my camera. We finished MaKena’s room and I have pictures from the big reveal, Lane and I went to Cancun for a week, Jacob was in his school play, MaKena’s last night at gymnastics and so much more. Hopefully this week will be a little less hectic and I’ll get some posts add.

Play date

Back in February we were able to have a play date with Maddie and Reese, who are my good friend Katie’s daughters. It had been a while since we’d seen them so it was fun to get together. Maddie and MaKena were a little shy at first but within a few minutes they were playing and having a good time. I wish I would have grabbed my camera earlier when they were playing so well in MaKena’s room. The girls had so much fun playing together and Katie and I had a good time catching up. We are hoping to make this a monthly thing!!

Now that's pink!

Lane and I have been painting the spare bedroom in the basement for MaKena’s new room. No, there’s no big news to share………..no baby Huseby on the way so don’t get all excited! MaKena is growing out of her toddler bed upstairs and Lane and I really didn’t want to bring the daybed from downstairs upstairs. When I ask MaKena if she’d like to have a room downstairs with Jacob she went running back to his room and said she wanted her room in Jacob’s room. Most Saturday and Sunday mornings I’ll find her in Jacob’s room watching cartoons with him before Lane and I get up. I just love it. If it was up to her she would have slept in her new room that night. Lane and I got online and started looking for bedding. We couldn’t paint the room until we had the comforter picked out. Surprise, surprise, we went with princess bedding which MaKena helped pick it out. She kept telling us she wanted her room to be pink and purple. So that’s what we did. When we were painting I look at Lane and said “WOW, now that’s pink.” I wish I would have had a video camera on when she came in the room while we were painting. All I heard was “pink walls!!” To say she was excited is an understatement. It’s sure going to be a girly girl room!

Silly girl

MaKena Rose is one silly girl. A few weeks ago we put MaKena to bed like normal, in her jammies. Usually she’ll play in her bed for a while before falling asleep. Most nights when I check on her I pull a pile of books and toys out of her bed. You just never know what you’re going to find some nights. This particular night when I went into MaKena’s room I noticed that a pull-up was on the floor by her bed. Here the little peanut took her pull-up off and put panties on. That’s not a good idea! So I tried to get her pull-up back on without waking her up. As I was taking her jammie pants off she rolled over and there on her hands was a pair of socks. I about died laughing. I went and got Lane so he could see his silly daughter. I thought he was going to fall over laughing. She does some really silly things once we put her to bed but I think this was the funniest by far. I eventually got her pull-up and jammie bottoms back on and covered her up. And of course I had to grab the camera and get a few pictures. When we asked her in the morning why she had socks on her hands she said “because my hands were cold.” Oh for the love, what a silly girl!!
